The Gift of Christ

The Gift of Christ

I once heard the story of a pastor who was getting increasingly infuriated week by week by a women in his congregation. One week the pastor went to speak to her about her behaviour. The pastor was warmly greeted by this women as she shouted to him ”Pastor, the Lord keeps speaking to me.” The pastor got increasingly infuriated until he thought enough is enough.

He approached the women confidently, “Excuse me madam, because the Lord is speaking to you so clearly can you ask the Lord to name to you the three sins I confessed before coming to church this morning?” The women fell on her knees and cried out to God and asked Him - “what were the three sins pastor confessed this morning?” The women smiled and got up off her knees and said, “Pastor, the Lord told me what the three sins were”. The pastor looked at the women as she said, “Pastor, God said 'he forgot, he forgot, he forgot'.”

This story simply illustrates the good news of the easter message. We are so often like the pastor. “We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Yet still “God demonstrates his love for us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). Yet, if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John1:9). However, the truth of knowing the forgiveness of sins thrills our heart. We realise the truth of the fact - “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

Sadly, we too often live with regret and shame yet in Jesus we find love, forgiveness and grace. We must always rememember "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) I wonder, as you read this article, have you confessed Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord?

May you too respond to the gift of Christ this Easter season.
